The department has in all six operating room
in which 12 surgery can continue at a time. Various surgical specialties
included: general, obstetrics and gynaecological, orthopaedic, opthalmic,
otorhino-laryngological, neurological, neonatal, paediatric, urological
surgery.
Out patients anaesthesia is given in radiotherapy
and psychistry patients.
The post anaesthetic care unit can accommodate 50
patients at a time.

Post graduate course run by department. is diploma
in anaesthesia (DA) under Dhaka University. This is a one year course at the end
of which students appear in written and practical examination.
Written examination comprises of 2 papers of 100
marks each, while practical examination comprises 10 OSPCE-OSCE stations and 2
viva boards of 2 examiner in each board. Pass mark is 50% and examinee has to
pass in each section of examination.
On going research activities are:

Comparative study of homodynamic influence
following ETT and LMA insertion.

Comparison of anaesthesia and motor blockade
between bupivaccaine and bupivacaine-fentanyl mixture after sub
arachnoid analgesia in routine CS.

Influence of nausea vomiting and retching
following ondansetron, aplacebocontrolled study in routine
CS.
